چکیده
A 65-yearold woman with no known malignancy had lower extremity swelling, fever, and weakness of the left extremity. She gave a history of multiple trips to Mexico. Plain and enhanced head CT scans showed multiple calcified enhancing lesions located throughout the brain parenchyma (Fig. 1). The presumptive diagnosis was infectious disease, such as tuberculosis, fungal infection, or cysticercosis. However, further workup, including serum titers for cysticercosis , was negative for an infectious disease. Approximately 3 months later, axillary and subcutaneous nodules developed. Biopsy of these lesions showed metastatic grade-IV adenocarcinoma with psammomatous calcifications and papillary features most consistent with an ovarian primary tumor. Clinical and CT examination of the pelvis showed a large adnexal mass, and the disease, such as tuberculosis, fungal infection, or cysticercosis. However, further workup, including serum titers for cysticercosis, was negative for an infectious disease.

The role of FDG PET/CT in the evaluation of treatment response in a case of calcified ovarian metastases
Evaluation of calcified metastatic lesions by conventional imaging can be challenging. Ovarian cancer metastases can present with calcification which might increase in size and number following therapy. It is not entirely clear whether these calcifications are associated with tumor response or disease progression. Calcified lesions which do not change in size or configuration are particularly p...
متن کاملSYNCHRONOUS SURGICAL REMOVAL OF SUSPICIOUS OVARIAN METASTASES FROM COLORECTAL CANCER
Metastatic ovarian cancers occur in 3-8 percent of women undergoing surgical resection of a primary colorectal cancer. In this study we examined the characteristics of women with colorectal cancer for whom synchronous oophorectomy had been performed. In this cross-sectional study, records of patients with colorectal cancer from April 1991 through October 1999 who had undergone surgery for ...
متن کاملSlow Progression of Calcified Cerebellar Metastasis From Ovarian Cancer: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
The report describes a rare case of a patient with a calcified cerebellar metastasis arising from a primary ovarian cancer. The patient was a 33-year-old woman with a long history of stage IIIc ovarian cancer who had undergone transabdominal hysterectomy and bilateral oophorectomy followed by chemotherapy with gemcitabine hydrochloride. Incidentally, computed tomography (CT) revealed a cerebell...

متن کاملHigher incidence of isolated brain metastases in ovarian cancer patients with previous early breast cancer.
BACKGROUND The pathogenesis of brain metastasis as a relatively rare complication of epithelial ovarian cancer is poorly understood. Some observations suggest that brain metastases from ovarian cancer are becoming more common and that ovarian cancers, which metastasize to the brain, may have a different biological pattern. METHODS Data were extracted from the Edinburgh Ovarian Cancer Database...
